Braille

This page is under construction.

This category includes hard-copy braillers which emboss/print braille, soft-copy braille displays and monitors and the services and software components providing the multiple translate-to-braille functions.

Braille embossers (hard-copy output devices) vary in performance and price, based upon casual personal use to production models.

Braille displays (soft-copy monitors)allow the user to read in braille the information seen on the screen: the device creates dynamically refreshable braille characters corresponding to the screen information. The number of cells available at any on time varies from 1 to 40.

Braille software conversion programs or services translate to the different grades of braille.

Another tactile reading device being used by the blind to capture output from the computer display or the printed page is the OptaconII which presents information to the user via a vibrating tactile display.
